If you're thinking about jetting off to Barcelona, the relaxed Spanish lifestyle may entice you with their late mornings and even later nights, making it the perfect place to head out for brunch. Stroll along the streets at 11am and find rows of quaint cafes and bustling bakeries all serving up fresh coffee and a classic omelette español style. With it's glitzy coast line of sophisticated restaurants and lavished decors, Barcelona has much to offer for every budget.
You'll always find the best cafes are tucked away on the less populated streets, where the residents hang out their yellow & red flags, reading their morning paper on the balcony.
Brunch is huge in Barcelona and with so many options here are a few of the top picks in the heart of the city.
Trópico
Carrer del Marquès de Barberà, 24, 08001 Barcelona, Spain

Given the name it should come to no surprise that this backstreet cafe serves a trending brunch favourite- Acai Bowls. This healthy but super filling breakfast includes everything from the berry smoothie mix, nuts, seeds, fresh fruits and even a little pot of honey to pour on top. Order the water melon smoothie and top it off as a truly tropical breakfast.
Its simple but sweet decor gives it a relaxed vibe, great for people who are on holiday with no rush or a quick stop before your morning meeting. When you visit make sure you check out the walls, the one in the picture below has been well crafted with a map of Asia plastered onto the brick work.
In terms of pricing expect to pay 10-15 Euros per person, for your brunch and drinks.
Caravelle
Carrer del Pintor Fortuny, 31, 08001 Barcelona, Spain

Probably one of the coolest brunch and lunch spots, with stylish retro decor it's very well known for serving some of the best food in the city. Imagine ordering coconut french toast, maybe you'd expected some crisply cooked brioche bread, with maple syrup and coconut flakes but instead you are served with the image above. A divine master piece of sweet heaven.
Not only is the coconut worked into the french toast mix but hot berries, apricot and creamy coconut yogurt is dolloped on top with a sprinkling of almond flakes with fruity flavours drizzled around the edges. I doubt you'll see french toast the same way again.
This place can get pretty packed around breakfast but its worth the wait.
Brunch can cost you around 15-17 euros per person for food with a hot drink and juice.
El Casal Café Bar
Plaça Victor Balaguer, 5, 08003 Barcelona, Spain
Just up the street from the stunning Basilica of Santa Maria del Mar, positioned is the quaint cafe bar, El Casal. It's rustic and traditional vibe makes it a hot spot for locals and tourists. It can be difficult to find authentic and traditional places to eat in the centre of Barcelona, but this spot is definitely far from your typical tourist trap. It offers a wide range of hot breakfasts, with the local Spanish breakfast, Huevos Fritos and eggs.
One of the best things about this hidden gem is the price. With their breakfast deals you can get a coffee, juice and a croissant for only 4.50! Hard to come by in an city known for its extravagant prices. A cooked breakfast will cost you around 5 euros, also a steal.
If you're on a bit of a budget but want top quality local food this is definitely your place. It has all the charm of a local Spanish cafe, leaving you with plenty of change to spare.
