Established in 2009, ‘Hidden Rooms’ is situated within a Grade II listing, the previously eloquent architectural site of the Victorian Roman Baths, beautifully designed by Architect Sir Matthew Digby Wyatt.

Located in the basement of this grand building, it conveys allure to the thirsty and the curious.

Hidden Rooms expresses its self as not just any cocktail bar, but also home to regular live music and a bespoke entertainment venue- although strictly not a nightclub.

As an independent bar it strikes passion in what they do, which is of course, to provide a captivating setting in which you can sit back and enjoy the authentic, creatively concocted cocktails by their highly trained mixologists.

Owner of Hidden Rooms, Marcus Deaves reveals that he began his career as a glass collector at the early age of 16, igniting his ambitious career in the bar business, collating now, an impressive 30 years experience in the industry. “We aren't just a bunch of people who already had a career and then just decided to open a bar” he affirms. With his attention to detail, everything is done from the heart. “Honest to goodness customer focus, it's not just a slogan on a website.”

Hidden Rooms offers an eclectic array of drinks, but the money is most definitely in the cocktail menu. There's a superb choice from the classic cosmopolitan and minty mojito, spreading right across to their five 'House Originals' and fascinating story filled creations such as 'The Brambles' invented in the 80's. If you're looking for something more on the adventurous side, ask for the 'Marino Solero' which is a nostalgic of the childhood classic solero ice cream with a twist of Sailor Jerry including flavours of passion fruit, mango, vanilla and Prosecco. This one also includes an exciting close to home tale.

In Cambridge you can be almost certain that many of the overcrowded bars are coupled with the same stereotypical crowds, the Go-Pro tourists and the shots! shots! students. Whilst this may be attractive to people looking for an easy pit stop in their evening endeavors, Hidden Rooms leans itself away from the obvious and shines through honing a diverse range of locals, from couples in their 30/40s to a composed crowd of young adults, all seeking to experience a table service where you are treated like royalty. Marcus points out “We are not ageist’s, but we are behaviorists.”, giving a sense of refined atmosphere without the pompous pack. Popular with bookings, it's best to make sure you secure a table before visiting the bar as they fill up fast.

Also loved for its music, Hidden Rooms offers a weekly schedule of Live classical and Jazz bands among other acts, located in their separate events room which also equip with a DJ booth for other fitting occasions. You must book a ticket to attend these events as they can often sell out. Henry Marino-Hacking, House Manager, comments “Thursday's are pretty high brow with a regular Jazz gig”. So if you like that classic vibe and you fancy an entertaining and lively evening, check out their What's On page to find their upcoming shows and book your tickets.

Always reflecting upon the previous year for improvement, Hidden Rooms is never taking their foot off the gas, setting them apart from not just the independent but also chain competitors in Cambridge. Marcus proclaims “We're always good, but we know we can always be better”.

Their continual itchy feet is what drives them to improve each year. Henry says “we are constantly being shaped by our customers, they're the ones that mold us for our future plans”. With this you can expect to be offered expert advice from people who are truly filled with knowledge on the history of spirits and the process of cocktail making. They aren’t just there to serve you a drink but to offer you with an experience, for when the night draws to an end you're left informed, intrigued and impressed with the world of mixology.

For those who may wonder, they also offer cocktail making classes from party favourites to the bespoke packages where you can hone your cocktail making skills and explore your favourite spirit. Click here to check it out.
